Bad Brake Light Switch. Broken Fuse Or Fuse Box. Bad Sockets and Connectors. Broken Wire. As you can see, there are a few different things that could be going on if your brake lights don’t work but your tail lights do.To diagnose the cause, swap the bulbs between left and right. If the problem moves it's the bulb, if it doesn't it's the holder or the wiring to the holder. In my case it turned out to be the bulb. I replaced both, because if one is gone or going, the other won't be far behind. See my profile for details of vehicle and mods. I have a mk1 focus 2001 1.8 Zetec. Got an issue with my brake/tail lights. Basically when I turn the lights on my central brake light is on as well as tail lights only dim but enough to see. Then when I apply the brakes my tail lights go off and the central light illuminates. The 2 brake lights on the side do not come on either. The front and rear parking lights are on the same circuit, so first, check to see if the front parking lights are working. If the parking lights are not working with the headlight switch in the on position, then locate fuse number 22 in the fuse micro panel on the right front interior kick panel. This fuse will power the parking light relay . 70 99 178 141 369 73 351 260 23
